Girls: How can I get a higher rate on my pictures?

I'm just curious because with a regular pic I got some pretty good rates, like 8 and higher. But when I added some effects to it, my rates were almost always 8 or more. So i'm just confused as to why a little light change makes such a difference in a pic or why some girls give you a 2 even though I'd consider it a damn good picture lol. All opinions welcome
