Would the GOP be better off if they moderated their positions?

That's part of the problem with the liberal media, most Republicans don't care about abortion. But the news agencies that support the DNC keep the few fanatics front an center as if they represent all Republicans. The Republicans have held control of government enough to get anti-abortion laws passed if they really had that as an agenda and it has never happened. Before Congress went Democrat in 2008 name one anti-abortion bill that had enough Republican support to pass?

Maybe. They could stand to lighten up on some issues. As long as they aren't being 'moderate' on 'immigration reform'.

I understand them wanting to restrict abortions, if they do it in a reasonable way. Trying to criminalize miscarriages is beyond stupid though. Do they really do that?

Oh well, see me walking away, shaking my head, and wondering why I try to be 'reasonable'.

I've been a moderate republican for almost 50 years. After the JFK moderate democrat party dissolved the GOP establishment moved left to fill the void making them rino neostatists. The founders idea of America is back to the right a ways. So I guess it depends on what someone thinks is extreme, tyranny to the left of me or liberty to the right of me. Or in no man's land between the fronts (moderate) like myself watching the bullets wiz by from one side to the other. And as a moderate I feel alone and possibly in the extreme some times, but I can see the show better from here.

The GOP has been moving towards "moderate" for years which is causing the appearance of more organizations that are louder in their "strong" conservative beliefs.

Your first line essentially says "I would vote GOP if they were liberal." which is odd.

I would agree, to a point on abortion. The only aspect of the gay debate for me is marriage. Don't call it marriage and I have no problems. Social security I have no clue what you are seeking. Jobs coming back to America is not a GOP problem, per se, since it is caused by a lot of liberal things.

Elected GOP officials are more concerned about pleasing their "base" and their "donor class" than the rest of us. They are counting on getting enough money from people like the Koch brothers to defeat all challengers, no matter what positions they have held.

The problem is the extreme has pushed too many moderates out and taken over.

They were the same people who came up with the term RINO.

Abortion-- ok, what is reasonable? I mean if you think it is killing life then how can that be ok if it is earlier? Are you suggesting that those people compromise their morals?

Taxes? so you like paying more taxes? The only people that seem to like to pay more taxes are those that are not paying taxes.

Social Security? What is the problem with their position? It will become bankrupt before most of us that are working get to use it. So something needs to be fixed, or it will not be there at all.

Gays? Ok that is a position that might be something to be compromised, but most liberal positions on it don't seem to have a compromise. Currently some states allow it based on the voters of their state and some don't. I do not see how this needs to change. States issue a marriage certificates and thus they are the ones that should decide what the laws to get one.

War on Women is joke. I don't need to be able to get an abortion on demand to have control over my body or my life.
