Is it illegal to ask for donations via social media websites?

I want to post links to a charity donation website(legit by the way.) But I've heard that it's illegal to ask for money even if it's for a legitimate cause. Is this true? I posted the link to my own facebook page, but I want to know if I can post the link on twitter or celebrity pages. I feel like if it's legal for me to go to my neighbors and ask for money, I should be able to post on a friends twitter, etc etc. Does anyone know if this is legal or if I can find out?

You have to look into that site's privacy policy or use of site policy.... it's usually at the bottom of the page

you have to have an explicit autorization from that charity organization. Talk to them
