Facebook advertisements in my newsfeed?

Today I was on facebook. I'm used to the advertisements on the right side of the screen, but for some reason advertisements were showing up above the bar where I type my status, on the left side of the screen under my friends list, and even embedded in my newsfeed, between my status updates. It's since gone back to normal. Has anyone else been experiencing this???
