How to play(stream) online videos directly on vlc(or any other media player)?
I want to watch online tv shows and movies without downloadind them. I found several sites for that but none of them have subtitles. So i want to stream them on vlc and add subtitles externally. Is there any way out?

If you have the correct subtitle file, press CTRL-N when running VLC. You then type in the address of the video file. You may have to enable the display of subtitles each time you watch a movie. This is done through the Video dropdown menu, Subtitle Track option.

NOTE: Just because you have a subtitle file with the same name as the video does NOT mean it's the correct subtitle file. The timing can be off by a large margin - I've seen errors of several minutes. That is, you see the subtitle of what was said several minutes ago, or what will be said several minutes from now.

Rishabh you cannot add subtitles LATER by streaming. It is the same as live tv and you also do not have access to the file to add to in a stream.
What you want to do is only possible with downloads which of course are illegal.
