I paid for an item on eBay, but it turns out it was the wrong one?

I bought and paid for an item on eBay, but turns out it was the wrong one. I have contacted the seller and they opened a cancel transaction case. However, eBay tells me I should only accept the request if I have already gotten a refund (which I have not). Will I get my refund if I cancel the transaction or should I ask the seller to refund before the transaction is cancelled?

Also, if I do not get a refund in 5 days, should I decline the cancellation of the case?
(That is when the case will automatically be cancelled)

Wait for the refund first. I'm assuming you paid with Paypal, so do not cancel until you see a Paypal credit.
