What do you think of Facebook and Instagram deleting the posts of people who are trying to sell firearms?

While I think the gun law restrictions ARE ridiculous, I can understand their restricting the listings to those that comply with the gun laws of the lister's residence area.

It is a CYA action on their part.

It looks like Facebook is buckling to outside pressure from anti-gun sources, threatening to have followers close their accounts if Facebook doesn't comply. Or, maybe they are not sure about how legal private sales and illegal private sales of firearms differ, and figured to just eliminate a forum for both, so they couldn't be blamed of facilitating anything illegal, by association. Or, it might be a mix of both. Either way, for those of us who are interested in legal private/public sales of firearms on Facebook, we have a choice too. We could close our accounts and boycott FB.

Gwolf, I watched the local news here in Ft Worth last night. One of their local reporters went online on facebook with a firearm and placed it for sale. Within minutes he was getting hits from people asking if he would sell it without doing a back ground check. When the news went further into the report they showed dozens of firearms for sale on FB where people were writing that they would do a private sale without a back ground check, cash only sales.
I do private sales at gunshows, most of the time I'm the buyer and even find decent firearms in the local newspaper for sale. I'm not one for restrictions on sales but in the case of FB and the other social media sites having folks post like these, were disturbing. You would have no way of knowing if the "buyer" was a convicted felon, mental case, or buying to resale or transport across the border.
I think the explanation the local news gave last night about restricting and deleting the ads where people wouldn't require some form of check is probably a good thing in this case.
I for one will NOT sale to anyone who won't provide me with their name, number and letting me copy their license number down, hey it's for my protection here.
If FB and the other sites keep some wanna be mental from shooting up a crowd by deleting some of those post then I would say good for them.
