Speed of internet means?

What is the difference watching a movie or streaming a tv show /movie with an 8mb/s connection to say a 100mb/s connection.

They're both fast and way better than dialup.

I can only get a 8mb/s connection where I am.

So my question is fast is fast , pictures and movies load quickly anyway, so what is the difference with 100mb/second connections ?
Am in Australia by the way. ADSL 1 is 8mb/s ADSL 2 is 25mb/s and cable is up to 100mb/s.

100mb/s is more faster then 8mb/s. it is a 4g speed.

For videos and pictures & movies you can take 3G or 4G internet connection no interruption to see movie or videos.

Wow normally I wouldn't bash another answerer but please ignore P A R E S H as he's talking about phone speeds not computer connection speeds like you are.

You say fast is fast. You're fairly correct. In the way of streaming movies you probably wouldn't notice a difference between even such drastically different speeds like 8mb/s and 100mb/s simply due to the nature of streaming. With that said the speed difference comes into play when downloading a large file such as a game or a video file to play in offline mode.

As an example lets say you downloaded a movie file for a high def movie with a standard length of 1h 25mins. It's file size can vary anywhere from 1.5Gigabytes to even 3 Gigabytes. For this example I'll use 3 Gigabytes. At your connections speed 8Megabits/s you're actually downloading at a max speed of 1 Megabyte/s so it would take you approximately 51 minutes to download that (assuming you were constantly pulling it at max speed). On the other hand if you had 100Megabits/s it would be downloading at 12.5 Megabytes/s so it would only take a tiny bit over 4 minutes assuming max speed. My internet is a 50Megbit service and I pull a max of 6.3Megabytes/s and would take a bit over 8 mins for the same file.

So is fast fast reguardless of speed? Depends on what you're doing. Standard browsing and streaming you probably won't notice the difference. Gaming(upload effects this too) or downloading it can cause a dramatic difference. Hope that answered your question!
