Can you target competitors company name through adwords?
Lets say I owned BMW; is there any rule against me going after keyword "Mercedez" for my adwords or microsoft ad center campaign?

As a rule you may not mention competing products in the ad text but can use them in a keyword phrase, there are a few big names with lots of leverage who have gotten Google to forbid their names in keywords.
