My friend of 5 years will not pay me back. What do I do?
I have a friend of 5 years (he's 27, no job, lives with parents, no high school diploma, and is currently trying to become a famous singer). Last year he said he needed money for a new phone (his parents pay the phone bill) and begged me, explaining how his current phone was all glitchy and faulty. He had no upgrade ready so it was 300 dollars I loaned him and he promised to pay it back soon. Now its a year later and he hasnt paid it back. Yet he still contacts me regularly like nothing happened. Then 3 days ago I reminded him that he still owes me 300 for the phone I helped him get. After I reminded him, he stopped texting back and hasnt contacted me since. Hes not responding to my facebook messages either nor emails yet hes online a lot. What do I do now???
Ps- i know where he lives but idk how his parents would react if I showed up angry at their doorstep
Stop calling me gullible. Maybe I was a little bit but really if you had a close friend for 5 years straight who checked on you a lot, it would be hard to believe they would suddenly drop you after "waiting" 5 whole years. When he promised me he would pay me back soon I thought he was gonna get it later from a bank loan or a family member or had a job interview, etc.

You may as well write it off-the fact that he doesn't respond says it all.

***EDIT- Your money is gone. Unless you have a written document stating the terms of the loan, the money was a gift in the eyes of the law. Find new friends, live, and learn.***

This is a hard lesson to learn.

It's never a good idea to loan money to friends, but, if you do, you need to get a written contract. No contract means no hope of getting it back in court.

Just cut off all ties with him. He's a loser, and you know it. You'll go far in life, and he has already peaked.

If he truly values your friendship, he'll come back around with the money. If he does, its your choice whether to let him back in but set some strong boundaries.

If he doesn't pay you back, then you know that you didn't have a friendship to lose in the first place.

You "loaned" money to someone with no job... got nothing in writing... and you are asking what to do.
You cannot sue him since you have no proof.
If you could sue him and got a judgement, he still has no money.
You were gullible. He is a loser. What did you expect?

Hes not a friend. Hes a loser man boy. Dont care what his parents think and go ask THEM for it. Either they are broke and say no, or they are emarrassed as they should be and try to fix it. Either way youll shake up his comfort level before givong up completely.
