Well it depends on who you add in my opinion, I'll only ever add people I fully know and people who I spend time with at school. But add the wrong person and you can find your self face to face with horrible people.

if you use facebook then doesnt matter who you add as a friend just dont put your personal details like address phone number even at private profile
