i have question about facebook?

Everytime i wanted to add friend someone on facebook. when i click add friend it says this " You can't add friend this person, but you are now following her". I want to do that on my facebook also. but i dont know how to do it. can you guys help me? just like my friend, i talk to him if he does have facebook. he said yes, but i didnt see his facebook on search engine. i told him that he will be the one who gonna add me because it says that message. "you are now following him". i dont even know what to do to make that happen on my facebook? help me please.

1. Go to http://www.Google.com
2. Google "Why am I following someone insteead of adding them?"
3. Realize you need to stop being lazy and take the 10 seconds it takes to type something into the address bar.
