No, there's no compromise. One side or the other will give in. And the side that will give in will, eventually, be the team. You see, the Oneida and other groups like A.I.M. LOVE this issue. In the back of their minds they don't want Snyder to give in because this issue gets them FREE PUBLICITY. These groups get more donations when their name is in the news. If the Skins change their names, they lose donations. So they will never stop because they have every incentive to keep going.

On the other hand, eventually, the political class will step in. Either the Patent Office will revoke their trademark or some congressman will slip a new law in as a rider on some bill. It's inevitable that eventually the team will lose. But the fans aren't ready. They grew up using the word to mean a football team, not as a derogatory term, but as one they have love and affection for. It's historical origins don't change that emotional connection. If Snyder changes willingly, the fans will stop supporting the team in droves. But, if the government forces him, maybe they don't.
