Would you have your child's teacher as a FB friend? What about letting your child have their teacher as one?

Some people will "friend" anyone on FB. As a college professor, I personally like to keep FB for my personal friends and use other means of communication for professional purposes. We have course management systems, chats, forums, and email that are used to communicate with students. I just think it gets tricky and confusing to mix friendship with a professional relationship.

I don't necessarily want to know what my students are doing in their leisure time. My job is to judge their work, not their behavior; but if I know something about their behavior, I feel like it could influence my overall impression of their work. I just don't need to see photos of them drunk or half naked. Nor do they need to know what I do in my leisure time. It's fine for them to know that I'm a human being with interests and friends like everyone else, but I think it's more important that they see me as an educator and a professional.

Some people dont want their teachers in their personal lives, but others do since they became close to their teachers.

Its ok to refuse friend request if you dont think of your teacher as a "friend" dont think of it as awkward or something you have say yes too

I personally wouldn't want to. It totally crosses that professional boundry. Your more often then not going to put SOMETHING on there that someone would find weird....that's an awkward situation!

The rule in our district is once they graduate or are out of your class its fine. If they are in your class, you shouldn't be friends with them. I'd just prefer to keep my personal life personal. I don't add students, but if they add me after they are out of my class I usually accept.

I'm only friends with a FEW of the parents, and its because I know the whole family. Usually I'll have the older child in my class, then the younger child a few years later, and the parents will decide they want to keep in touch and add me.

gee maybe the reason the sluts that get knocked up have grants because of the freakin life they are stuck with and god knows no child should be left behind *sarcasm*

i shouldnt have to write an essay just to get grants because those stupid girls that spread their legs and have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 + kids, thats all they have to do to get grants and that is NOT fair to me or any of my hard working friends that struggle every day !
