if it's a USB device that you plug into your tablet, does this mean you don't need to establish a wi-fi internet connection? So you can stream live TV even in dead zones?

They are TV tuners. They receive OTA TV programming via an antenna. No WI-fi needed. But you have to be in an area with goo TV reception.
