My pitbull in the uk what can I bypass it as!?!?
Yooo its me again... From the feedback on my last question I understand that they are illegal now!!! I live in a small town in the countryside near a city called Cambridge.. Nobody would have pits around here so I honestly don't think the vet would clock on the only bad thing is I don't know what to blag the dog as... Of you go on my twitter ( @ddoubledavis ) you will see pictures of him he is around seven weeks... If you know anymore info that will help me follow me on twitter message me then we can dm lol it's easier than this!!! Many thankssss

Maybe you could get away with thinking that its a Staffordshire Bull Terrier? They look a lot like Pit Bulls but they are legal here in the UK. My cousin has one and he's really friendly Smile

"I honestly don't think the vet would clock on"

lol, that is just so funny.

nobody round where i live has an aston martin, but i bet if i took one in the garage the mechanics would clock it pretty quick.

Bear in mind that as well as not taking it to the vet you won't be able to take it out on the street either, as the police will definitely notice it.

I saw your picture yesterday. I would say a Lab X Staffy, don't go for Mastiff.

I can understand your predicament but you REALLY shouldn't of got this dog at all and you should of done your research first.

There is a vast difference between a staffie and a pit bull in the UK but they are still the closest and are legal.

I really resent the fact that you are going to lie about this dog at all and I do hope maybe you then put your time to good use to stop people breeding them. The only people that do are those that really don't give a damn what happens to the dogs. Think about it. Would you, if you care about your dog to the degree that most of us do, ever risk breeding it knowing that the pups can only go into the hands of those who don't care if they flout the law and wouldn't you worry about what sort of owners they were, and wouldn't you worry about what will happen to the dogs.

You'd better make sure you keep this dog totally as it should be and well socialised with other dogs etc. You are going to have to take pot luck regarding what the dog turns out like because even if the police suspect a pit bull is in there then it can be taken from you regardless of what you try and fob it off as. I can tell a pit bull from a staffie any day and so can most people. Different face altogether and a different build and a dog only has to have a whiff of pit in there for the police to seize.

My brother who is a dog handler seized a Pit bull with colleagues last week .This dog is illegal in the UK but ,the dog has a court hearing this week .Because the dog has an owner even though its an Illegal breed it can be licensed and muzzled if the judge agrees .

You would have to speak to a solicitor about this that deals with things like this ,but there are many dogs that look like Pit bulls and are in fact mixed breeds of other dogs the Staffy being one .

Don't ever rely on a vet to give a determination of what breed a dog is when i got my first shelter dog a vet i no longer use thought he was a mix of 3 breeds even though he is a Shih tzu we argued and had my dog been a banned breed it would of been put to sleep .

Pit Bulls have been a banned breed for YEARS now in the UK, so quite where you got one of 7 weeks from, I'm sure the authorities would be interested in knowing. Yes, you might get away with passing him off as a Staffie, but hooking Staffies in with Pit Bulls is only bringing forward the day when the gentle Staffie is banned too.

I'm sorry, but bucking the system isn't a good idea. And don't think your vet isn't going to be questioning what breed he gets to treat because you are wrong. I'm sure your puppy is cute, and I don't agree with Breed Specific Legislation. However, the law is the law, so I hope you know what you are doing!!

All the information you should be aware of re the Banned Breeds, can be seen on the DEFRA website.

And living in a village around Cambridge doesn't make you immune to what very well might happen. Cambridgeshire isn't remote!!! Why announce this on here if you want to keep it quiet in any case!!

Add - Read and take onboard what Lorraine has said here, and to your previous question. She's right!!

Well firstly any dog that is pit or pitball type has to be legalised by court then you need to get it neutered , tattoo'd, micro chipped and always have it on the lead with a muzzle and ownership can't change. Or it gets euthanised.
It's vary rare for them to legalise a pit type so don't get your hopes up.
Firstly train it, socialise it , bring it up to be a good dog with no aggression.
Things you can do are walk it at night only, keep it discreet and not all over the Internet.
Say Its a bulldog/staffie, American bull dog cross, staffie cross lab. But when the pitbull features start to show you will have a issue in your hands.
Dont breed from this dog, get it neutered.
However, vets may report your dog as pit type.
