most likely you just need to put your isp account name and password somewhere in the routers/modems settings. I reset mine once and my isp just sent me a new one that was doa and i just took its config and saw it had a account name and password on it that the one i reset didnt

Your router came with a default ID and password, the "factory default" settings. When you initially logged in to configure the router, you had to enter information that your ISP provided before you could log in to your ISP.Your router logs into your ISP, NOT you. After a hard reset, you have to do the same configuration again as you did the 1st time. Your router did NOT come with the user ID and password for your account preprogrammed. The configuration ID and password is different from your ISP account user ID and password. Make sure you change the router password. Changing the default password means no one can log into the configuration page from outside. My router is configured by using my browser and going to http://192.168.0.1, but I could go to the IP address assigned by my ISP and get to the same configuration login. Your router will respond to either the internal (192.168.0.1) or external (from your ISP) IP address. You might consider your router like a locked door that you can unlock either from inside or from outside using different keys.
