greet him a happy birthday...it's not your ex bday but his son... there's nothing wrong with that. never miss the chance to be happy and let others happy too just because of what other people might think... your conscience is clear.

Does the ex know you are still fb friends with his son? Does the son post on your fb page? Would the ex be ok with that? Unless you are still friends with the ex, then it is time to move on. No point in confusing the child. You may even consider removing him as a fb friend. If his feelings are hurt he will go to his dad, as he should. And his dad will explain the situation. Think about it if roles were reversed. If you had a kid and an ex sent fb messages, how would you feel? Comes off as kind of creepy, doesn't it?
