Should i message him or not?

Ok so there's this lifeguard at my pool... long story short we've talked a couple times we've said hi & bye, he's asked me my name and what grade i'm in and we just kinda look at each other a lot & he always smiles at me, so there's that. He followed me on twitter about a week ago... My friend wants me to dm him on twitter and say hey and just get to know him, and at first i was completely hesitant, but then i thought about it and i was like what have i got to lose? But i realized what i have to lose is him not answering, and then i have to go to the pool and he's there and i'm scared it will be awkward. Another thing, a girl lifeguard at my pool always texts him and he never answers or he just answers and he's like ha cool. I don't want that to happen to me, but she sends him weird stuff........so i hope it won't but i really do wanna dm him and just get to know him better, because he DID follow me on twitter first.... should i do it? I really don't want to risk him not answering and then it being awkward, because I'm already pretty awkward.

try to see him as a friend first so things won't be as awkward. getting to know a guy first will always help things move along in a smooth way. if you wanna message him..go ahead! there's nothing wrong with showing him who you are as a person..just treat him as you would treat a friend/or guy family member. things will progress from there.
