Quite easy to share an Internet connection for PC, With a router (that does firewall/NAT) sitting between the "modem", and the network. Sounds like you've got that already. I've not played around with wireless networks, but should work much the same as wired networks.
Some network devices seem to require something called Universal Plug and Play, which I don't know much. Other devices seem to need Universal Plug and Play turned off. Don't know an easy workaround. The lockup might be being caused by a conflict. Most common problem is the machines attempting to use the same IP address? Shouldn't freeze your machine though (merely prevent the network connections from working), it sounds a bit more complex. Duff card? Ads |

Even if you plug in hardware to your system, the computer might not recognize it, or it won't even notice it. Check if there is instructions to how it plugs in.

You might have to buy a Network "HUB" for efficiency. Instruction manual will be given with the hub. Follow it

Yes, peer to peer networking with Internet sharing would work find. Vista already have built in p2p networking. With this set you will not need the router the Nintendo with the wifi usb should be able to talk directly to your computer.
