Can I have bad effects with my website with SEO?
I know there are things that can go wrong with SEO, but from generally speaking of just starting to learn SEO, can someone go wrong with the whole thing?

Hi Tammy,

While doing SEO, things can definitely go wrong.

For example,

You might've listened to someone and did some bad SEO such as buying links. Having backlinks are good for your webiste; however, buying links is the bad part. Links are supposed to be earned. Furthermore, links that you buy usually are poor or low authority links and due to the penguin update, it willl harm more than good.

Another thing that can go wrong is you over optimized your site. Such as getting a bunch of bad links as i mentioned above. Keyword stuffed your site.

One way to avoid it is to learn SEO yourself and make sure what you doing is white hat.

If you're just starting to learn SEO and have been concentrating on the techniques then I don't think you're in trouble. Things can go wrong with SEO but since you're learning it yourself, you'll definitely avoid the basic mistakes that others have mentioned. Just be careful with your content, keep it unique and don't stuff it with useless keywords. You might have learned keyword density is the key and overdoing it will have bad results. Also, always keep the users in mind along with the search engine, don't just concentrate on getting to the top quickly. SEO takes time and effort. One more thing. Always optimize for users. All the rest will come easy to you.
