Yes. The wireless card needs drivers. Without these drivers, the card stops working. Reinstalling the OS will remove these drivers. Without the Driver CD or a copy of the driver available, you will lose your network/internet connection.

Drivers for the wireless will be lost when formatting it, you would have to re-download the drivers or install them with a Disk before you could use it again.
