computer internet connection help?

My gateway laptop says that it has excellent internet connection, but when I go on internet explorer or AIM it says it doesnt have connection. This happened with my desktop, until i got a wireless adaptor. The people at best buy said that i don't need one for my laptop, so what should I do?

most laptops have the WIFI, so if you currently have a router then you shouldn't have any troubles establishing an internet connection on your gateway.. If you have a desktop then yes you will need the wireless adaptor.. Word of advice I would try to establish internet connection with your desktop first and then your gateway later.. I believe with the laptops you need something off the bottom of the router (and if you have 2 or more computers while using your laptop internet will be slow for all computers depending if its a G or N router).. Try restarting or turning off your modem/router and wait 5 minutes..

If you have any troubles I believe you should call your local internet provider for tech support.. Good luck..
