Companies find out what you have been searching for by using the internet to search the world wide web then target you with directed advertising for whatever they think you are likely to spend money on.
That is as brief as I can make it. As an example, last year I needed a new garden shed and did an on-line search for one, I was plagued by adverts for sheds for months afterwards, even though I had already bought one. Maybe I should have done a search for something more picturesque! For a more technical explanation just Google "internet data mining", the Wiki article at the top is good; https://uk.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=...ers_web_gs Somewhere for you to start I suppose, regards, Bob. Avoid this myopically stupidifications with seach engines leading you around by the nose with these personalizations of ads based on your searches by enabling the pop-up blocker in your browser and adding a free add-on called Adblock Plus. Change your search engine to StartPage, they don't record you ip address and seach results like Google,AOL,Yahoo,or Bing does.
