Would this be really creepy or am I overthinking it?

Long story short:
-I liked this guy, we were kinda off and on friends
-My friend told said guy that I liked him on last day of school
-He asked me to this dance at our school that is coming up in a week
-I haven't talked to him face to face since July
-We need to discuss plans for the dance; time, if we're going with a group, who's driving etc.
-He gave me his cell phone number and told me to text him next time I can hang out, but I usually talk to him through facebook.

Would it be weird to text him to have this conversation about dance plans or am I completely overthinking this and I'm wasting y'all's time because it's so obvious that I should just text him?
