First of all your camera probably acts like a 28mm lens. That is landscape wide not portrait wide. Yes you can make a portrait at 28mm effective but it causes those odd effects that make extremeties, like your chin or ears pushed more to the outside. In short if short at the widest setting and arm length the image will indeed look wrong.

You need to zoom a little bit in around 50mm or 70mm effect. Not sure what camera you have and how to get there ... but just try out a few things. And with that slight zoom in take another foto. Now it should be much more flattering.

And colors, well inside the house it is darker then outside in super sunny time. Your bathroom? Or your parents bathroom..well lets just say its dark for a camera. It is light enough for us to see but for cameras it is pretty bad. To deal with this the ISO is raised up, and sadly with ISO comes more noise, no not sound but those weird wrong colored dots and also a color shift. Due to the noise the camera is unable to retain natural colors.

In short if you are going to make self shorts do it in better light.

I have been on stage and as they say there.. the light is only good enough once it blinds you as player. Yup from the seats looking on the stage it looks as if little light is used. But as actor well.. oh my.. are you getting a face full of freaking light.

Same with taking images in house and in rooms YOU belief are well lit but in truth are not!

So if you make self images or videos find the area where there is enough light. With your camera zoom a slight bit in so you get away from the landscape wide and more into portrait territory. And trust me it will look all right. Hell maybe buy one of those cute little tripods and use a timer.

That way you can move a little further away!

And ah what is beauty, well.. I better not go deeply into the meaning of beauty. You are a bit to young for that... no it isn't anything sexual. It is more pretty deep stuff..

Beauty is on the inside ...it is what you send out. It is ugh.. how does one explain. Lets just say someone who won't make it through an american beauty show might be more beautiful then any of those fake girls or boys up there. Why? Because they are innerly more beautiful.
