How can anyone get my e-mail and send me messages marked Facebook when I am not a member?
I received a message from someone on Facebook. It wasn't an invitation to join, I am not a member. How did they get my e-mail? This is from a complete stranger whom I don't recognise. Seems like some sort of spam/ad.
What can I do besides delete it?
Someone has the same name but I'm not a member. I thought it was weird too.

From Facebook you can send invites to other email addresses. But if it is not an invite then delete it, it is most likely spam.

If you're not a member than I have no idea why you got a message. Perhaps it was sent to the wrong person, or it could very well have been a spam message. I would be inclined to think spam. weird!

You do not need to be a member of Facebook to get an Invite. If you've ever emailed, or IMed with that person in the past, they can invite you to use Facebook via the Facebook 'Invite' Tool. It was probably done by accident or innocently when the person subitted their IM or Email list when they signed up.

This is because when you signup you're asked if you want to add your Email/IM Contacts to look for friends. Those on your list that are already Facebook members are sent an 'Friend Request' automatically. Those that are not members (like yourself), then they're sent 'Invite' Emails.
