How do I get rid of Facebook ads?

One day I logged onto facebook and there were way more ads than usual. I asked around and no one else has them. I ran a virus scan on my computer and they won't go away. There is an ad in the top right hand corner under where it says account, and next to account there is a button that says change background. There is also an ad on the left side of the screen under where it shows online friends, and ads are scattered throughout my newsfeed. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

You (or someone using your computer) installed adware. Have you ever installed something like facebook themes? I recommend using CCleaner (Crap Cleaner), it removes stuff like this.
