if he liked a picture of you he cares he doesnt want to complety forget about you i don't know maybe if you text him he might get his hopes up or something. but if you text him let him know in the text you miss the friendship and that's it so he wont be confused

yes you should and go for an indirect approach,as a conversation starter text " where have you been hiding?? at least show your face once in a while ".. he will be like, yeah have been busy or something, u can say say oh so mr.busy doesn't have time for old friends right.. so how have you been doing ? or maybe if you really want to be friends than ask if he have some time for drink and some fries ?,,,
