Friends are missing after reactivating my Facebook?

I reactivated my Facebook account after being gone for a few days (almost a week), but after coming back I noticed a few of my friends are missing.

I was wondering if they could possibly remove me from their friends list after my accounts been deactivated?

Another thing too...some of my friends haven't been completely dropped from my friends list. Their name will appear on my list of friends, HOWEVER their profile picture will be blank and whenever I try to click on their name it doesn't lead me to their Facebook page. It just directs me back to my friends list.

yes, they can defriend you while you are deactivated - i do it all the time

if their picture is gone and their name is in black, that means their account is currently deactivated

Yes, they might remove you from their friend's list. But, if their profile picture is blank and clicking in their name takes you to your list of friends means they have deactivated their accounts at the moment.
