<<<<< meaning on twitter?

Ok so on twitter people will use "<<<<<" and what I don't get is like are they meant to be arrows or like greater/less than signs? Like if someone is talking about who they like better and they puts "Joe >>>>> bob" do they mean like pointing to bob or they like Joe better?

It means Less than and this sign > Means greater than .

at times it means different
1) either it is pointing at something, like, <<<< see my new pic
2) they r great/less signs, like joe>>>>bob

It means they like some better than the other. For example .. Rihanna >> Chris Brown that means the person likes rihanna ... Ice cream <<< chocolate ... Chocolate wins.
