How do I turn off facebook notification sounds?

I've been using facebook on my pc and suddenly it started making a sound for every notification I receive. It's really annoying, how do I turn it off?

To turn off chat sounds, click the gear menu in the chat sidebar and uncheck Chat Sounds.

This will disable all chat sounds. To turn chat sounds back on, just return to the gear menu and check Chat Sounds again. You may need to log out and log back in again before the new setting takes effect.

Gods yes please I want to know too! This isn't CHAT SOUNDS, this is NOTIFICATION SOUNDS.

Turning off the CHAT sounds also mutes the notification sound. Just tested, and works like a charm.

I'm with you, I don't want to turn off Chat sounds, just Notification sounds.

Hi AbraXus, you say to click the gear. When i click the gear symbol, I only get the options to "Add a Badge to your page" Whatever the heck that is, or View As...what am I missing. This only started blipping at me in the last couple of days for no reason I know of, it is driving me insane.

Yep, I had the same thing going on but launching chat, then clicking the gear in the upper right corner of the chat box, then un-checking chat sounds DOES fix the problem. I don't know why it started doing it but I'm just glad to fix it!

This started happening to me 2 days ago, on Friday, also. It only seems to happen in CHROME, not FIREFOX. I suspect it is part of some CHROME update.

I did what was suggested above, turn off CHAT sounds, but that now also turns off the sound when I get a Facebook message. I want that sound, just not the new notification sound.
