If we had a great relationship, I could afford it and he was actively seeking work...probably. Getting into arrears for child support is a pain in the butt. On the other hand, I'd first tell him to get his butt over to the office of child support and file for a modification immediately, and if he had half a brain he'd do it, so I wouldn't be making that decision or payment in the first place.

Indirectly I suppose you would. He's got to pay some way. If it has to be from a joint account it still affects you. Sorry!

Yes. My husband paid child support for his daughter and it was considered one of the bills we paid monthly. If he had lost his job we would have continued paying until we could get changes through the court. He could go to jail for non payment and they would still expect the money to be paid.

Look, When you marry a man who already has a child, there are things you must accept and expect. If you cannot, then do not marry a man with a child. Child support is the least a non-custodial parent can do for their child.

Besides, I love and care for his daughter. The money was for her care (she's an adult now). She and her mom needed the money (and her mother always worked very hard).

he needs to take it back to court and get it reduced, i would resent having to pay unless i had an abundance of money but on the other hand i would not want the problems that come from not obeying the child support order.

No he makes an official request to modify the order. Help is free from the state.
