I know I can customize my privacy settings on FB, but do I have to add my uncle before I can change my settings? Or do I have to add him first, then change my settings?

You can categorize your friends into groups. That's what I do. One of my groups is "Relatives"...and things on my FB profile that I don't want relatives to see are hidden from that list.
To set this up, go to Account -> Edit Friends, then click Create a List. You will then be able to hide posts from that list/those lists in just the same way as you can hide it from individual friends. |
