My little sister was diagnosed with anorexia today?
Our mutual friend told me one time that he saw a private conversation between her and her boyfriend on facebook. The boyfriend told my sister he likes skinny girls, according to our friend. That's probably why she's anorexic now. The tears are flowing now. How can I cope if I lose my only sister?

Well... nobody is anorexic because somebody says he likes skinny girls. Anorexia is a fairly complex mental disease.... and so give your sister a big hug and be there and don't criticize her. She's got a lot of work to do to beat this thing.... and don't be standing on her foot, if you know what I mean.

My prayers go out to you and your family.

Whatever the source of her being diagnosed with this, I hope you can get rid of it. The media these days are screwing with the young minds, smh.

Chances are your sister starved herself for more reasons than her boyfriend likes skinny girls. Anorexia is a complex mental disease that will take time, support, and effort from everyone involved in your sisters life to overcome. And even once she is back to being physically healthy, there is a chance that mentally she will still struggle. Eating disorders are lifelong battles, which is something you need to understand. In a year from now, if a dr tells your sister she is better, that doesnt mean she is going to stay that way. Support her, let her know what she means to you, and dont be afraid to go to counseling yourself to deal with the emotions that you are feeling.

He can't exactly cause her to develop anorexia. It has to be building in her for awhile, and it's now just much worse.
And her boyfriend is a total jackass. She needs to keep him out of her life, because he'll only make it worse for her.
If she was diagnosed by a doctor then he probably put her on a waiting list for treatment or signed her up for a therapist or something.. your parents need to take her to a therapist, nutritionist, and possibly a rehabilitation center for her to be healthy again.

It takes months, even years before she's better again. You won't necessarily lose her if she's in treatment. Just be a supportive, loving sister. It's not your fault she has anorexia.

Best wishes. x

Thanks Auroch.
Anorexia isn't from something as simple as what that boy said. It's all mental.
If she is getting help, she'll be okay. Depending on how low her weight is etc.
Good luck.
