Can a minor sue me after they turn 18?
If I give a relative their kid's password for facebook/myspace (thus resulting in privacy invasion by the legal guardian) can the minor sue me once they turn 18 since I indirectly invaded their privacy?

If they are a minor they have no expectation of privacy from their legal guardian the internet connection and probably computer belong to the parents. Minors cannot make the contract necessary to get an internet account on their own. That makes it the parents responsibility to control all aspects of the minors internet use. This is how parents were getting sued by the RIAA for their kids stealing music with file sharing services. Most parents claimed they didn't know what their kids were doing and it didn't help one bit the courts ruled they were responsible for controlling their kids online actions.
It doesn't matter how the guardians got the password they have the right to use it to monitor their responsibilities. |
