This isn't what you are hearing. You are being lied to, and falling for, right wing propaganda. The bill they are talking about is one where internet providers can charge different prices, and provide different coverage depending on how much companies pay them.

So if a company like Verizon is providing internet service to you, and you pay $40 a month for the fastest service, but Verizon wants to start their own streaming tv service they can charge Netflix, Hulu, and NBC a huge amount of money to stream their video at a speed fast enough to be viewable on a computer or tv. They can also just refuse to allow these services to stream on their internet connections because they don't want the competition. They can do the same with news sites and political sites. If they don't like a viewpoint they can charge a huge sum of money to allow the website to work, if a company can't afford the extra charge their website will not load, or will load extremely slow and will not be able to be viewed realistically. So even if you pay for fast internet service it is irrelevant because the other side has to pay extra to get fast service as well, which is not generally how it is now.

Net neutrality means that if you pay your fee the internet providers must allow the companies equal access to broadcast their content. What you are talking about is not happening. The only exceptions are also by Republicans and conservative Democrats who are trying to set up the ability to shut down websites during times of conflict, but because of the Patriot Act they can already do this. They will not be shutting down these sites permanently, nor are they planning on doing so. They are trying to censor what people can report during massive protests like the Occupy Wall Street protests or the Arab Spring.

Not dumb enough to believe that "censoring" will result in the shutting down of Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace...
