Why do people put "#______" after their facebook statuses?
I know this question makes me sound old, but I'm not. I thought this had something to do with the message being directly sent to someone. At first it was "@____" such as @wbrapper, but now I'm seeing it with # sign. Somebody care to explain?

its called a hash tag and its really a function for Twitter so you can look these subjects up using the hashtag. It has no significant purpose on Facebook.

Their twitter account is automatically updating their facebook status and that is a twitter hashtag.

if you have twitter and facebook account connected and you tweet about something you use twitter hashtag. A hashtag is a topic of twitter like #yahoo, it means you are talking about yahoo. In your tweet this hashtag is converted to a link and clicking on it it will show you all those people and their tweets who use the same tag. But when twitter also posts that tweet to facebook automatically, the links are not posted as FB don't have hashtag.
And about @something this reply to the person named after @. |
