I want to put my story about my sister on the internet. What are the legal ramifications?
My sister is still living. She has caused an enormous amount of hurt and pain in many peoples lives. She portrays herself otherwise, and I'd like to publicly announce what I know of her. I don't know what forum I might use on the internet, but would take any suggestions. I am a law abiding person and do not want to do anything illegal. Anyone have any suggestions?

If she denies that its true and she can prove real damages then should could sue you for defamation. As she rightfully should.

What would you gain by this? You could always use a pseudonym.

Move to another state or even better another country, when you can. Work hard, get an education become a billionaire and deny her any recognition.

Go on a private forum. Don't announce it to the whole world for billions of people to see.

That sounds like a really bad idea to me.
If your sister is as unpleasant an individual as you say she is, your best course is to keep her out of your life as much as you can.
Mounting a public attack on her will make *you* the villain, you know.

The way to deal with troublesome people is to make sure that your own behavior sets a good example, and to stay clear of them as much as possible.

Okay, so half a dozen people here have already told you this is not a good idea. They may very well be right. I really don't know. But that wasn't what you asked.

Get an account on Facebook, where many people complain about ex-friends and relatives to the whole world. To keep what you say from being cause to be sued for libel or slander, start you story with saying that these are your personal opinions. Use "I have reason to believe" instead of "I know".

In any case, if what you say is objectively the truth, even if it hurts, embarrasses or subjects your sister to ridicule, there is little she can do. Keep in mind that laws against libel and defamation are civil, not criminal laws, so she can't have you arrested, she can only try to sue you. That is nearly impossible to do without spending a pile of money on a lawyer.

Unless the remark is false, she would not have a valid claim against you anyway. It would be perfectly legal and your absolute right to tell your story.

If you are posting facts then that is not defamation or slander. If you make stuff up and it causes real damages (measurable financial or mental stress or something like that) then she can reasonably financially sue you for the amount of those damages.
