How do I get Facebook to notify me on statuses?

All of my friends get a notification on Facebook when someone comments on their status, but it doesn't happen for me. I went into the settings and there were all these options for what they notify you for and they had all of these different applications and stuff, but there werent any options for statuses. How do I do it?
