Its fine if you use the occasional smiley. But if you overdo it then it sounds like your kind of coming off as flirty. Example:
Hey how are you doing I hope good! miss you a lot. See you at school tomorrow. We'll have to catch up
Hahah something like that. I don't know, I think it's fine. Just don't overthink it
