What does the "#" symbol mean on twitter? Can you put whichever phrase you want after it?
I'm new to Twitter so I'm not sure what that symbol is really referring to. Thanks!

when you or someone uses the "#" symbol, its a hastag,that means someone starts a topic and other people follow along with making a joke or remark about this hastag. like if i start a hastag like this #justinbiebersbirthday you can tweet: #justinbiebersbirthday happy birthday justin! or something like that.
