How would you get started in the music industry?
I am in love with all things musical. I'm a singer, and people say I'm pretty good. Problem is, I don't how I can get "discovered". My family is kinda poor so we can't really afford to be doing auditions and stuff. What should I do if I want my dreams to come true, as cheesy as that sounds...?

Record yourself singing about 10 songs, your own or covers. Doesn't matter which. Then burn them onto loads of blanc disc, you'll have loads of albums. Print a picture off of you. Go round your local Market and hand then out, ask for donations. Then people will add you on Facebook and it gradually builds from there. Post music videos on utube. Send videos using twitter to celebs...
Other than that, all I can say is xfactor, bgt... Hope I helped

I made a donation to this young lad down town.

like jane wilson says, but i will tell you the inside. major industries arent looking for talent but looking for those who have a great fan base. to them, they see it as profit rolling over into their hands. its just the way it is. you can have the most unique voice and not get signed because your lack of fan base. getting a local buzz is better than getting a buzz from the internet. because the internet will give you a more sporadic fan base. local fans would be more loyal and loyalty sells.

try to do local shows and get your music to into the local clubs. im sorry for sharing the truth but you can fight for success, its not something unattainable you can get there

Do a cover for the top 5-10 most popular songs right now... Record yourself, upload it to YouTube, title your YouTube video as (e.g. Girl Sing Beyonce Party Cover) or something to that extent. Watch the views roll in. Try and create a good fan base. More views means more fan base which means more buzz for you. More buzz means more people are willing to take you even more serious. Industries will take some notice. More people will start to talk.

Setting up a website is very inexpensive nowadays and anyone who's going to do music MUST have a website. Godaddy domain is $11.99/year, hosting is like $4/month. Host your mp3s on there and throw in a Facebook comment plugin so people can comment on your songs. Include your email address on your website so others can find it easier to contact you if need be. Adding Facebook will create even more views/fans on Facebook which means you'll get a bigger reach. Open a Twitter account. On Twitter, try and dive into certain topics that are trending in music, give your voice and opinions. Tweet out and communicate with your followers and be sure to include your website on your Twitter bio.

Go to KickStarter.com and create yourself a project. People will start funding your project if they think there's a chance. Offer in return a signed CD, a sign poster, or a free admission to your show. Record your music, open up a BandCamp.com page, offer your songs for download and purchase.

And when you're done, repeat this step all over again until someone take notice.
