I have a question about Twitter... reply messages?

Ok, so I'm new to Twitter and I have no idea how it works. One of the people I'm following tweeted something I wanted to reply to, so I hit reply and typed my message. So will that replied tweet go to my friend's Direct Messages inbox or will it show up on his tweet wall? And also, can the people I'm following see my tweets or only the people who are following me? Thanks so much for the help!

Haha you can tell you're new :')
Right, the people YOU follow, you can see their tweets, and they cannot see yours UNLESS they are also following you.
Your followers can see everything you say, but if you "@replying" to someone so for example
" @Kate Hey yeah I'm fine, you? " then your followers cannot see this unless they are ALSO following @Kate
Also, if your page is public, anyone can see anything you tweet to anyone.

Direct messages, only you can see them.
It's sort of like myspace messages and comments; only you can see your messages but your comments unless you have a private profile are viewable to anyone.
