How did it become common practice for women to wear make-up and not men?
I know men used to powder their face, wear rouge and lipstick, when they wore those white wigs. Why did they stop and why did it continue for women?

it was a phase in the baroque period, but it was silly and frivolous so they stopped. women have always had high standards of beauty and need makeup to maintain that.

Its a cyclic thing. Men used to dress like peacocks, now they dont. Women were plainer dressers, now they r the brightly coloured ones. It will swing round again one day, if we last long enough.

It is a common behavior for females to make themselves more attractive. This is true about animals too.
