MSN is not blocked in China.
According to another answer I read on here "Any video hosting site any video hosting/sharing website that wasn't owned or controlled by the Chinese government is banned" http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,320050,00.html Edit, Claw, I suggest you carefully reread my answer again. As far as I know DivX and flash players from Adobe are software and NOT video hosting websites, if you had bothered to read my answer correctly I make NO such claim that they ARE blocked in China NOR do I claim that video hosting sites are. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeware Freeware (from "free" and "software") is computer "SOFTWARE" "Free or paid its still software". Even it its a plug in its still software its still not a video hosting site. Plug in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plug-in_%28computing%29 "In computing, a plug-in is a set of software components that adds specific capabilities to a larger software application." I don't claim video hosting sites are banned, I said ACCORDING to, I'm not to blame because you can't read. Given the odds that you have given such a hosting site that is not popular or widely used it just could be that this one has slipped pass the net. Maybe you should go and inform the Chinese authorises, specially as it contains videos such as these http://www.vimeo.com/3518603 Note: porn is meant to be banned in China but Chinese co-workers do download porn from Chinese video hosting sites in China and other places. In fact, I should be calling you a lair as you claim I said DivX and flash etc are banned where it is clear to see I did not. "Backpedaling" No, you just too proud to admit that your wrong. I knew there isn't any sense in talking to some one who claims because software isn't blocked that websites ain't, nor have you understood the point of my last edit. Maybe at least you can point out in quotes using the full original statement where I have lied. Ads |

Google is not blocked nor is MSN.
Blogspot or wordpress are blocked. Mr Hex Vision is a liar. DivX videos (including flash players from Adobe are not blocked in China) nor is vimeo. === You have gone mad. Are you aware that there's websites that uses the DivX player just like the same as youtube uses Flash? ie. loombo and Divxden. So Fox News is wrong that says that Chinese firewall ban ONLY video-sharing sites that are not Chinese or government-related. You are completely wrong and it is to bad you are too stubborn to admit it. First you said that Chinese government banned not government related video sharing sites then when I caught you off guard saying that vimeo and other sites from public are not blocked, then you tell me that Chinese don't ban not so popular sites. Make up your freaking mind! |

I live and work in China, and I am not Chinese: I reply with reference to my direct experience (updated today, from Guangzhou)
Msn and Google are not blocked at all. I search on Google, use gmail , google maps and other services with no problems at all. Twitter is not blocked: I am using it right now. Myspace is not blocked Facebook and youtube are blocked but easily accessible trough free web proxy or even better trough tunnel proxies. Blogspot and wordpress are often blocked, but not always, and easily reachable trough web proxies. Many blocked website are easily reachable browsing with Opera/Tor or Firefox + Tor or other browser proxies Several sites with porn or specific anti-China content are blocked but human rights websites (i.e. Amnesty, ILO, and so on) and main information networks (CNN, BBC,Reuters, most online newspapers and magazines) are not blocked at all. The Great Firewall is really a minor problem for anyone having basic browsing knowledge: it is just a paper tiger. I suggest you to have a good firewall plus anti-virus/anti-malware if you want to safely browse in China: hacking, including government driven hacking, is quite widespread |
