In general, some good criteria to follow when evaluating mlm companies are:

1. It should be a consumable product. Such as food, candles, supplements, etc. This creates a repeat need and a recurring revenue stream for you. Also, that increases the logic behind selling the recruiting end of the biz. If the product is something a person has/wants to buy on a regular basis, then joining an mlm for personal use is a better deal.

2. It should be priced under $50. Ideally in retail, a good price point is $19.95, because people have less resistance to purchase something if it is under $20. Unfortunately, with mlm companies, product sales under $20 won't support layered commission payouts, so you have to move up to the $49.95 price range.

3. The product should be unique. If the company is selling something that you can purchase at another store, the incentive to join/buy from you will be greatly reduced. While most products are available from multiple retail sources, if the company makes their product unique enough, that can increase the perceived value.

4. The profit/commission structure needs to be set-up so that a person can make a reasonable amount of money from strictly selling the product. If the reps commission is so narrow that you can't make decent money strictly by selling the product, it will be harder to make a living with that company. In traditional retail, the term they use is keystone or keystoning. Meaning the wholesale price (reps price to purchase from the mfg) is 50% off retail (the price to your customers). My goal was always a 103% mark up from the wholesale price. This allowed me to recover any shipping costs, as well. So if my wholesale price to buy a product from a mfg is $10, I want to sell that product for at least $20.30.

5. The mlm company should promote themselves and strive for brand recognition and to be a recognized authority in their market. That increases the effectiveness of your personal marketing efforts.

6. Although this kind of goes without saying, the product needs to be high quality and the company beyond reproach.

Now, for the companies you find that meet all or most of those criteria, find one that sells products you are passionate about. That is absolute key. If you do not believe in the product or the company, you will be fighting and uphill battle. Find an mlm company that meets the above criteria AND that you use religiously and are excited to share.

Then, you will have your ideal company.

The only other thing to consider is finding the right upline. Once you find the right business, don't just sign with the first person that comes along. MLM can be a hard, lonely biz. Find an active and supportive upline, then listen to them and you'll do much better!

Good Luck!
