It is almost certain that 40 years or more ago, any small girl telling her parents what some man had done to her would a). not have been believed or b). been told that she must have done something to lead him on. In some cases (in slightly older girls) the latter could have been true because girls did not know enough about how easily men 'can be lead on that way' and would not have anticipated the end result. We were not told the facts of life, schools did not have sex education and we were just told to be 'good girls'. What the boys were told I have no idea.

There would have been many unreported rapes in those days to hide the shame which could be brought on the family 'by the girl' (never the man) if such things became publicised. Few young girls would have become pregnant from rape then because girls did not mature as early as they do now.

Every one coming forward now should be listened to by those skilled in listening. The fakes (and there will surely be some) will be recognised and the genuine should receive counselling of some type at the very least. A man can probably not understand how such an event can damage a female for life.

Some of these girls would have been told to 'be good little girls and do as they were told' and when it was over told to 'go home now and keep your trap shut - or else' and that is exactly what some of them have done - until now when they have found the courage because of all the other publicity brought about by one very evil man. All evil men who did this to girls (and boys sometimes) need to be brought to account. However, no-one should be named until there is proof enough to prosecute

I can't help feeling that the prospect of a slice of compensation from Savile's estate may have been some incentive in refreshing a memory or two..

But then,I aways was a cynical sod.

Having said that, in genuine cases of paedophile activity, celebrity status and wealth should be no protection.

But it usually is.

It was only Micheal Jackon's wealth and infuential friends that kept him out of jail.

But then, I always was a cynical sod.

These girls were teenagers at the time and surely knew right from wrong so why did a lot of them go back for a second/third time. lt didn't seem to bother them then and they liked the attention he gave them plus no doubt the gifts etc. Back in those days sexual abuse was different to nowadays, now you have to be careful what you say and do, but l don't understand ALL these girls were molested and not One was believed. It wouldn't happen now l think a lot of kids hope it will as they can then sue and get thousands of pounds and become a celebrity. Very sad.

A lot of these girls ( now women ) never talk about what really happened to them if they were raped or molested. And now that they have established family and friends they really do not want to be in the lime light. I have found that these women will do what they must to protect family and home. If it happened as a child it was too many years passed to come back and slap them in the face. Money cannot buy a happy family. Not saying the ones coming forward are liars-- Just sayin what I know to be true from personal experience.
