He is regretting his behaviour. Like you said that he has the habit of saying bad things to you and then take it back when he is not mad. He may also be missing his son.

If he was smart he would go to court and get an order so he doesn't have to deal with your emotional immaturity.

He broke up with you not the child. Grow up and contact him so they can have a relationship.

I think he's incredibly immature, but regrets leaving you and realizes you were probably the best thing to happen to him.

its possible he is just doing it for child support because he doesnt sound responsible,if he was he could have been providing from the time the child was born. he is like my ex who i have a child with.Dont give him a chance until you are sure.
