Is this action illegal?
Ok so I got bored so I attempted to hack a celeb's twitter account. But all I did was send a certain email with a code thing to twitter's tech support that would allow me to hack it, but then I realized it's illegal to hack the celebrity's twitter account and before twitter could answer, I sent another email with the last one saying ''forget this whole email, please don't send the new password."
Ik it's illegal to hack a celebrity's twitter account (I was only gonna do it just to be on it and follow fans for them and read their DMs, I wasn't going to tweet anything or do anything that was that bad), but is it still illegal that I sent that email to them? Like if they sent me the password anyway, would that mean I did something illegal?
But I never actually got on their account, I didn't even get their password. And it was pretty stupid considering I'm 13 and there's no way I could do it anyway, but I was just wondering if me sending the email was illegal, not if the action of actually hacking their account was.

If you are here asking this question then I seriously doubt you have what it takes to hack an account of someone that isn't totally stupid. Yes, it is illegal! Will you get caught? Maybe, maybe not. Keep in mind that the kid who hacked Sarah Palin's email account is now serving 10 years in prison.

sounds illegal to me.
however I am pretty sure that the twitter tech support team will just tell you to use the 'forgot password' function, because I'm convinced that you're not the first one who has done something like that.

by the way, twitter employees cannot(!) give you the password (as if they would), because it's saved as a hash (=encryption that cannot be reversed).

@Kenneth
I totally agree with you, but according to wired.com "Kernell was sentenced to one year and one day in custody and three years of probation."

EDIT:
@Alexis what kind of code did you send / where did you get it from - this seems quite ridiculous.
I'm not sure if you can post it according to the community guidelines, so if you are really worried just write to my mail address neogeometalslug@yahoo.com & I'll give it a look.

It is still illegal to hack celebrity's twitter account DON'T TRY IT AGAIN.

As long as you didn't log into their account, you should be fine. Tricking somebody into telling you their bank account number isn't illegal, it's when you put your hands in their pocket and withdrawal some cash is when the feds show up.

Keep in mind that reading somebody elses messages online without their permission is just like going to their house and reading their mail. It is VERY illegal.

i'm afraid it's totally illegal,and twitter's technical support won't understand the second e-mail which u sent telling them not to recover the password, because they only understand messages in certain codes like the first email u sent.anyway if they sent u the password don't use it, and delete the email they'd send u (the one contains the password) . trust me....using a celeb. account is very dangerous, and if u were tracked i think u will be in trouble.good luck

If you think the actual celebrity uses the twitter account, please go back and rethink life.

Any celebrity probably doesnt know how to use their own email, yet alone use twitter
